Going vs. Strolling
When we are going somewhere, we have a destination in mind.
We need the image of this destination to match our view and know that we have arrived.
This process of matching is happening continuously and keeps our minds occupied.
When we are strolling, we do not have any destination in mind.
Since we are going nowhere, we can go anywhere.
Hence, we live in the moment and enjoy whatever comes our way during the stroll.
There is a clear path to follow while going.
The path needs to be optimized to be the shortest.
The more time it takes to get the exact match, the more frustrating it gets to keep going.
We can take any path while strolling.
We can take as much time as we can take as many breaks
That results in the discovery of patience within us
When we are going somewhere, we see people through our boundary
They are either helping us reach our destination or holding us back
They are either with us or against us
When we are taking a stroll, we see people through our horizon
They all bring unique perspectives to our experience and enhance it
Everyone is with us, and they all expand our horizon
When we are going somewhere, we relive the same experience again and again
It is either an experience that we had, or we have heard about from someone
But since we are not looking for surprises, we are hardly surprised
There is no final image in mind that we want to match at the end of the stroll.
We don’t know what to expect, so we do not have any expectations
Since we are open to surprises, we are constantly surprised
Going is a game of eliminating the risk
We want what we want, and we are not ready to compromise with it
Anything that takes us away from our destination makes us unhappy
Strolling is a game of taking risk
We do not want anything other than the new experiences that the way can throw at us
Some experiences hurt us but also make us strong
But most experiences are novel and thus fill us with the innocent joy of a child
